LCB has been working with the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation (BLF) for over five years, helping the non-profit organization achieve its goals to preserve and protect the Batiquitos Lagoon, a coastal wetland located 30 miles north of the City of San Diego between the cities of Carlsbad and Encinitas. The 610-acre main lagoon was preserved in the 1980s and is managed by the California Department of Fish and Game as an ecological reserve. LCB has been helping the BLF secure additional properties to buffer the lagoon and improve public access around it. Most recently in 2008 LCB acted as BLF’s broker in the purchase of the 18-acre Mitsuuchi property, located at the northeast corner of the lagoon. The $2.4 million transaction was made possible through a combination of state and federal grants. LCB is now working with BLF to secure other properties near the lagoon to protect and enhance the lagoon and its watersheds. The Batiquitos lagoon and nearby properties offer multiple restoration and mitigation opportunities for sellers of conservation land or those seeking mitigation land.
